Mobile unloader - Vietnam

Siwertell road-mobile in Vietnam

One road-mobile unloader takes on the work of two

Vietnamese manufacturer Vissai Group needed to unload cement vessels at two sites. It tasked Koastal Industries to find the solution; one that would often require two separate ship unloading systems. However, the capabilities offered by a Siwertell road-mobile unloader meant only one was required.

Challenge

Vissai Group’s new cement plant has two different import sites in Vietnam, some 250km apart, where it receives cement vessels between 5,000 and 10,000 dwt. It needed to source a suitable, efficient ship unloading system for each of them and tasked Koastal Industries Pte Ltd to find a solution.

Furthermore, Vissai built its new cement plant before commissioning any ship unloading system, so any solution needed to unload directly onto existing belt conveyors.

Solution

Purchasing two unloaders, one for each site, would certainly have been a possibility; however, it quickly became evident that Bruks Siwertell could deliver a proven solution that would ideally suit Vissai’s need for efficiency, flexibility and mobility; a Siwertell 10 000 S road-mobile ship unloader.

Diesel-powered and fitted with double-bellows system and dust filters for very efficient, dust-free unloading, the unit is well-suited to the size of vessels the customer planned to use.

At each site the unloader is able to deploy in under an hour, in time to meet the vessel as it enters port. It unloads cement cargoes at a rate of 300t/h, before dismantling, refuelling, and heading to the next destination.

Results

The flexibility of the Siwertell road-mobile ship unloader became a clear advantage over other solutions, enabling Vissai to maintain two sites with the same unloader, and save on investment, operational and maintenance costs.

It now operates a compact, mobile unloading system which is easy to operate and maintain because of standardized components, and more than fulfils throughput requirements at each facility.

Following performance tests at Quy Nhon Port in 2017, Vissai found that the road-mobile unloader’s capacity exceeded its design specifications of 300t/h, offering instead a rate of 372t/h while unloading standard Portland cement.

The cement and manufacturing industries are very competitive in Vietnam, and the road-mobile unloader has helped Vissai to increase its cement supply capacity quickly to take advantage of market growth.
